Durga Puja is an annual festival of Hindus. It is popular in West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Tripura, Odisha and also in Nepal and Bangladesh. This festival is celebrated in whole India in the month of Ashwin [in Hindu Calendar].It is a ten days and nine nights festival, so it is also called Navaratri in India.
It is the post-monsoon autumn festival called Sharda Navratri. Durga Puja is performed in homes and in the public. The festival honors the nine avatars of Goddess Durga. It celebrates the Goddess's victory over evil.
The nine avatars of Maa Durga are Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta,
Mahagauri, Skandamata, Kaalratri, Katyayani, Kushmanda and Siddhidhatri.
